Happy birthday, America!

As we approach August, it's hard not to reflect on what's ahead. When August comes, we'll bring on 19 new apprentices and pioneer 5 new campuses that FOCUS plans to be on in the coming years. We're also hosting our own SICM (Student Institute of Campus Ministry) conference in August — a weeklong training conference to build up student leaders in our ministry. Normally we bring our students up to Washington state in May for this conference that's hosted by a different organization, but due to COVID, they've given us permission to host our own version this year. This year is still bringing twists and turns that we need to adapt to, but please pray with me as we try to navigate this new school year!

I didn't do a great job taking pictures this past month, but here is a picture of me and some of my roommates and close friends playing Jackbox! Can you tell I'm lounging with my feet up? 😂

This is Karlo. I can't quite remember if I've introduced him on here before.. but I've been getting time (typically a phone call) with him once a week for the past 2 years or so! He's a great guy with a heart for God... who found my phone one day and decided to take some pictures of himself.

Here is another picture of Summer FOCUS! As the summer is coming to an end, it's sad to think that our campuses won't be united in worship until Winter Camp. But that also is something to look forward to as Winter Camp this past year was canceled! Again, a huge shout out to CARE Church for allowing us to use their building for a number of years over the summer!

We got a seal! To be revealed on official documents soon. Just thought it was cool and wanted to showcase it! We've been having conversations about a seal for a number of months and we finally pulled the trigger. Thanks to Cort for designing it and getting it done!

Here's my good friend Zoë and I at Ricky's Hot Chicken in Richardson. 1. SO GOOD. I got the Bird's Nest which is their chicken over a bed of fries with some sauce and greens. 2. SO SPICY. I got their A-Bomb level of spiciness (their hottest) and it's no joke. If you haven't tried it yet, I would highly recommend it! But.. maybe try a level of spiciness that's comfortable. I was definitely tearing up while I was eating. 😢

You can hardly tell.. but this is Taylor and Austin's wedding! Taylor was an apprentice with FOCUS this past year and Austin will be an apprentice this coming year! I've known them both personally (I was Austin's roommate for a year and I did the apprentice classes with Taylor) and they are both some of the sweetest people you'll know! I love them both dearly and I'm so excited to be working with them next year!

This is Rhett as his wedding (to Kaylee). Can you tell that it's wedding season? I was Rhett's housemate for two years. One of the most talented and hardworking people I know — Rhett makes ah-mazing music and has a few tracks on Spotify! S/O to his brother, Reed, in the background.

I grabbed a meal at Blaze Pizza with Brandon in Frisco. I mean.. where has this pizza been all my life?? I'm trying to try new food places.. so maybe this will turn into a food blog soon.

I went to watch fireworks at Globe Life Park in Arlington for the 4th of July weekend. Other than the bright parking lot lights (as pictured), it was great! It wasn't terribly crowded because there were so many parking spots available and we were able to get in an out quickly. Definitely something that I would consider going back to again next year!

Lately I've been VERY into Guitar Hero. Me and my roommates have been playing into the night and we often have other friends over who have swiftly became fans themselves. So this is just a quick ask — if you or someone you know has some Guitar Hero guitars for the Wii.. I'd love to talk. 👀

Happy Thanksgiving!! I hope y'all had a wonderful week and got to eat yummy food! :-) It's been a crazy month!! Our church had our annual fundraiser for the kids' ministry. We flew in Iain Provan for a weekend to speak at a joint-church service and Pizza Theology. I got to see a few movies—something that I've not done in a little while. Birthdays, parties, funerals, dinners. And today is Giving Tuesday! (And the month is still not done yet!) If you haven't heard, FOCUS has an annual fundraiser called Keep FOCUS Growing. A generous subset of our supporters has pledged to match over $55,000 in donations that come in during this fundraiser campaign which officially ends today! If you haven't yet, would you consider donating? To learn more and to donate, visit anyfocus.org/kfg ! We will also be posting updates on our Facebook page today. For a taste of what God is doing on our college campuses, read through this short testimony from Josh at UTA that was posted yest...

Had the opportunity to see my friend, Kaytlin, off as she moves out of state! One of the strangest people I've met, but also one of the quickest I've connected with. (Does that mean I'm strange too?) We met at a church (not my church) pickleball tournament last year and someone asked us if we knew each other from before. My go-to response in those instances is, 'Oh yeah, we go waaay back.' But in reality, we had just met a few minutes prior. Happy Lunar New Year! I got to celebrate with these friends from church with some good food that we spent hours preparing. 新年快樂 (Happy New Year!) Alright.. my first time trying to make focaccia. It turned out more dense and bread-y than it was supposed to. But I'm going to keep trying! If there's anything you think I should try making, let me know. :-) Happy Valentine's Day! I got these flowers after the actual day because they're cheaper that way.. but the thought still counts, right? 😁 Whether you have a signi...

I got to spend some time with this group of guys in Colorado. It was so beautiful and I enjoyed getting to take some time off after the big SICM trip. It was also a sweet time to get to know these guys more in depth and experience their servant-heartedness while we were all taking care of each other: making meals, cleaning, and trying to include everyone in the fun.  From left to right: Stian (green hat, former UTD campus pastor, Collin campus pastor), Mick (blue hoodie, UTD alum, Collin campus pastor apprentice), ME, Kevin (tall guy, Collin campus pastor), Steven (glasses, Denton campus pastor), Brandon (old guy, UTD campus pastor), Jared (chain necklace, UTD alum), and Jonathan (Broncos jersey, UTD alum). I love seeing the stars—it's so rare to see them in the city. Obviously my phone does not do it justice by any stretch, but you could see stars stretching across the entire night sky in Colorado. When I look up and see the vastness of stars, it reminds me of how small we ...
