It's Christmastime

Since the new school year started, we have had staff lunch once a month and we've started celebrating all of the birthdays of the month. It gets a bit hectic when you have to shout a couple different names in the middle of the song (and it's not coordinated at all): "happy birthday to... LaurenceEmilyBeccaAngelaSarah."

A couple of church friends invited me and Steph out to a high school football game (their son plays in the marching band). It's not personally my favorite (I prefer the NFL), but it was an awesome experience and I had a great time! Unfortunately we saw the only loss the team had this season (including the post-season), so maybe we're bad luck.

What a throwback. It's been awhile since I've been back to Founders North and it's still a horribly vertical room. This picture doesn't do the slope of the room justice.

I went over to Joseph and Sarah's house one weekend to watch the League of Legends World Finals and got to spend more time with their little one. 🤩

I love Sarah's improv shows. It was their last show at The Pocket Sandwich Theater - at its current location - because the venue is moving. She is (no joke) probably their best troupe member (or at least top 3) and it's always a riot to watch her perform.

Because of the trouble in reserving rooms at UTD, they had to have an FNF in the SSA Auditorium which can hold around 550 people... a room we typically do Pizza Theology in (which we invite all of the students in our ministry to).

I was working the check-in table with Emily at Fall Fun Fest, a fundraiser for our kids' ministry at Northeast Church. Little did she know, Peter was planning on proposing to her later at that event! Congratulations to them! Looking forward to having a new sister-in-law. 😁

And here is Pizza Theology. We were able to use the auditorium at CityBridge Community Church in Plano (previously Watermark Plano). This was my first time running a Pizza Theology in person and it was definitely a learning experience! Thankfully I had Mandy to help me think through how much food to get for somewhere between 300-400 students (you wouldn't know how many people there would be until they all got there!)

My sister turned 23 at the end of the month! It's still crazy to think that 3 of us are now in Texas... now to work on getting my older sister to move out and we'll have the whole family. 😉

It's Sarah's improv again! As you can tell, it's a whole new venue! Sarah is now also a part of a musical improv troupe. The whole premise is that the audience will suggest a topic and the troupe will come up with a whole musical on the spot, with separate scenes, a handful of songs, and a repeating chorus. I was totally blown away with how creative and hilarious they all were. If you ever get a chance to see her perform, I highly suggest it!

I entered the Hamilton lottery for a chance to win 2 $10 tickets to see Hamilton. When you win the lottery, you have a few hours to decide if you want to buy the tickets. And then when you buy the tickets, you have no idea where you are sitting until you pick up the tickets from the box office on the night of the performance. (You aren't even guaranteed that the tickets will be seats next to each other.) Imagine my surprise when Steph and I were able to sit next to each other in the 4th row from the stage!

And of course I can't end this post without my Thanksgiving meal. I celebrated with Steph's family in South Dallas with some turkey, croissants, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and steamed vegetables. Thankful for my first Thanksgiving with my new family! 🥰

Why are bananas curved in shape?

My mom celebrated her birthday this month and we all got on a video chat! (Peep the Zoom call in the corner.) My niece loves to clap with other people and so she was having a grand time. You'll have to go back (quite) a few blog posts to find when I first got my expander put in... who knew it would take this long for me to get my braces off?? Some friends told me that the braces were a part of my identity, so without them, what am I?! But seriously, eating is SO EASY again. Earlier this month, I got to go on a short trip to Boston with Steph and another couple. It was my first time (that I can remember) going to the East Coast. Being someone who grew up on the West Coast (and even now in Dallas), there has never been a rich history to the places I've been. But it was incredible getting to see the sights and walk The Freedom Trail. Going into Paul Revere's house definitely brought out the kid in me who loved him growing up, simply because we had the same name. Anyways, this ...

We Made It!

I attended UTD's end-of-year party because I heard that there would be a flash mob for Brandon (the party landed on Brandon's actual birthday). Don't tell anyone I got it for you... but you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7Q7eRcecoM On our first day of SICM (Sunday), they had us join the end of their first service so that their congregation could pray over us, our safety and learning. What a sweet congregation! Their church really reminds me of the congregation at Northeast Garland, people who have really invested in a shared vision - in their case, it's to support and train ministers around the world. If you see the little posters on the back wall, they had posters lining around their whole sanctuary of missionaries that their body supports around the world. On one of the sightseeing days in Seattle, a group of us took the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge. On the ferry, you depart from downtown Seattle across Elliot Bay, and get a grand view of the ...

Showcase is February 26

Showcase is in 1 week! If you haven't gotten your tickets yet, you can do so at anyfocus.org/showcase. All proceeds from the show go towards sending our prospective student leaders to SICM, a conference that trains and equips them to think pastorally on their campuses. This is a video of me and my family hanging out on Zoom on New Years Eve and celebrating the New Year for the West Coast (2 am in Texas). I decided not to attend any New Year's celebrations in person (and isolated myself for almost a week beforehand) in an attempt to not contract COVID before our staff retreat... I tested positive later that day. Though I tested positive for COVID on New Years, Winter Camp was a few weeks after which gave me time to recover. We flew in Rikk Watts to speak about the historicity of the Bible. It was nice to have some semblance of normalcy, as we had canceled Winter Camp the previous year. It was a lot of work, but definitely worth it to see the students bonding and having a good ...
