February 2024

Had the opportunity to see my friend, Kaytlin, off as she moves out of state! One of the strangest people I've met, but also one of the quickest I've connected with. (Does that mean I'm strange too?) We met at a church (not my church) pickleball tournament last year and someone asked us if we knew each other from before. My go-to response in those instances is, 'Oh yeah, we go waaay back.' But in reality, we had just met a few minutes prior.

Happy Lunar New Year! I got to celebrate with these friends from church with some good food that we spent hours preparing. ๆ–ฐๅนดๅฟซๆจ‚ (Happy New Year!)

Alright.. my first time trying to make focaccia. It turned out more dense and bread-y than it was supposed to. But I'm going to keep trying! If there's anything you think I should try making, let me know. :-)

Happy Valentine's Day! I got these flowers after the actual day because they're cheaper that way.. but the thought still counts, right? ๐Ÿ˜ Whether you have a significant other or not, I hope you are grateful for the friends and relationships you have in your life! God is good and gives us good gifts, which includes those He puts in our lives.

We had some church friends over to learn how to play mahjong the other week! We love teaching people (more people that know how to play means I get to play more) and getting able to spend time with different people that we normally would not interact with much. What a blessing - to be able to spend time getting to know new friends and make memories.

Some more experimental foods. It was my first time trying to make Chinese BBQ pork (char siu or ๅ‰็‡’) and also making bao buns (you may have eaten these buns if you've eaten peking duck). Let me tell you, sooooo good. And honestly, not terribly hard. ๐Ÿ˜‹

Beetlejuice is one of my favorite musicals (maybe that's unfair to say because most musicals I listen to I love and call them one of my favorites). But I was so excited to hear that Beetlejuice was coming to Dallas as part of the Broadway Dallas season. I entered the Lucky Seat lottery; it's a lottery where you enter per performance for specific shows, and if you win, you have the opportunity to buy cheap tickets to see that show! You don't get a say of which seat you get or even if your seats will be next to each other. But I won and me and Steph got to sit front and center!

We had our spring Pizza Theology the other weekend, over the Bible. Specifically, about translations of the Bible (Lindsey, one of our pastors from UTD, can be seen in the photo above teaching this section), the canon, what inspiration means (when we say that the Bible is inspired), and regarding hermeneutics and exegesis. You will be able to listen to this Pizza Theology through our Pizza Theology Spotify linked below (it may take a few days from when I send this blog post for the talk to be uploaded to the Spotify). You can view the handout for this event by clicking here.

If you didn't know how serious I am at pickleball... here's a group of us that played the other night while it was thundering. ๐Ÿ˜ณ Maybe not the wisest thing to do...

November 2023

Happy Thanksgiving!! I hope y'all had a wonderful week and got to eat yummy food! :-) It's been a crazy month!! Our church had our annual fundraiser for the kids' ministry. We flew in Iain Provan for a weekend to speak at a joint-church service and Pizza Theology. I got to see a few movies—something that I've not done in a little while. Birthdays, parties, funerals, dinners. And today is Giving Tuesday! (And the month is still not done yet!) If you haven't heard, FOCUS has an annual fundraiser called Keep FOCUS Growing. A generous subset of our supporters has pledged to match over $55,000 in donations that come in during this fundraiser campaign which officially ends today! If you haven't yet, would you consider donating? To learn more and to donate, visit anyfocus.org/kfg ! We will also be posting updates on our Facebook page today. For a taste of what God is doing on our college campuses, read through this short testimony from Josh at UTA that was posted yest

May 2024

It has been 9 years since I graduated from UW and 12 years since I left Vancouver, where I grew up. This year, after a couple of years of thinking about it, Steph and I were able to explore Seattle and Vancouver together—both places that are a big part of my story. We were able to visit the church I attended growing up where a surprising number of aunties recognized me despite a big appearance change. One even commented on how I used to be so quiet and avoidant of people (hopefully you have noticed that is not the case anymore)! I was also able to meet up with some friends that I haven't seen in years (some, it has been since graduating college). This December, we are planning on visiting Cameroon with her family, where Steph grew up, for a New Testament dedication ceremony. A handful of New Testament translations that Steph's parents have worked on for the past 20 years are finally in print and available to the people of Cameroon in their heart language . Praise God for the ab
