June 2024

I got to spend some time with this group of guys in Colorado. It was so beautiful and I enjoyed getting to take some time off after the big SICM trip. It was also a sweet time to get to know these guys more in depth and experience their servant-heartedness while we were all taking care of each other: making meals, cleaning, and trying to include everyone in the fun.
From left to right: Stian (green hat, former UTD campus pastor, Collin campus pastor), Mick (blue hoodie, UTD alum, Collin campus pastor apprentice), ME, Kevin (tall guy, Collin campus pastor), Steven (glasses, Denton campus pastor), Brandon (old guy, UTD campus pastor), Jared (chain necklace, UTD alum), and Jonathan (Broncos jersey, UTD alum).

I love seeing the stars—it's so rare to see them in the city. Obviously my phone does not do it justice by any stretch, but you could see stars stretching across the entire night sky in Colorado. When I look up and see the vastness of stars, it reminds me of how small we are and of Job's story, when God tells him:

“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footings set,
or who laid its cornerstone—while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?

It seems silly in that moment to try to control everything in my life.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Summer FOCUS is halfway over! It has been ah-mazing seeing our students from all of our campuses come together to worship God together. Reflecting on campus ministry, it truly is such a special time in their lives. A time when they are figuring out who they will be for the rest of their lives, what career paths they will start heading down, and we get to meet them at this crossroads and help them figure out how to move forwards with God in the mix. I think every summer I get excited for what God has in store for FOCUS, for our pastors, our community, and the students who will come in contact with God's love right where they are!

Why are bananas curved in shape?

My mom celebrated her birthday this month and we all got on a video chat! (Peep the Zoom call in the corner.) My niece loves to clap with other people and so she was having a grand time. You'll have to go back (quite) a few blog posts to find when I first got my expander put in... who knew it would take this long for me to get my braces off?? Some friends told me that the braces were a part of my identity, so without them, what am I?! But seriously, eating is SO EASY again. Earlier this month, I got to go on a short trip to Boston with Steph and another couple. It was my first time (that I can remember) going to the East Coast. Being someone who grew up on the West Coast (and even now in Dallas), there has never been a rich history to the places I've been. But it was incredible getting to see the sights and walk The Freedom Trail. Going into Paul Revere's house definitely brought out the kid in me who loved him growing up, simply because we had the same name. Anyways, this ...

It was my grandpa's 90th birthday and so we all surprised him by visiting Taiwan. The last time we all came back as a family to Taiwan was for his 70th birthday, 20 years ago. Here is a picture of all of us, including my cousins, and our significant others, and children (if applicable). I am so thankful for the opportunity to go back and spend time with my family! Here's the most readily available picture I could find of us, probably around 20 years ago, in my grandparent's house. The angle of the picture is close to the same, the flooring is the same. Not much has changed.

My sister got engaged! Angela (in the floral dress) got engaged to David (blue polo) and my older sister and her family flew in to surprise her at the engagement party. Peek our denim dress code, or at least half of us got the memo. :-) Here is (most of) our staff team for the 2024-2025 school year (plus a couple babies)! What a blessing it was to spend time with them. Please be praying for our team as we join in with what God is doing on our campuses! (If you would like to pray for our campuses individually, we are at: UTD, UNT, TWU, NCTC, TWU-Dallas, Dallas College Richland Campus, SMU, UTA, TCC - NE, TCU, Collin College - Plano, McKinney, Frisco, and Wylie). We had a cultural-wear appreciation day at church this past month! Really, I just wanted to see other people wear cool clothes and have an excuse to do so, so I texted a bunch of people to wear clothes from their own culture or a culture that they appreciated. Obligatory picture of Steph! It is her birthday on September 3rd! Wha...
